Introduced in 1946,
dye transfer is the finest color printing process in the history of
photography. It is an extremely labor intensive, complex and
expensive archival process. I worked to master the process over a
four-year period before Kodak discontinued it in the early 1990s.
A
limited selection of hand-made dye transfer prints, 15 x 22.5 of
Alabama nature are available at Lyda
Rose Gallery in Homewood or by contacting me directly. I like to think
these prints, being the only dye transfer prints of Alabama ever to be
made, will some day be of historical significance in American or at
least Alabama photography - probably long after I'm dead. They are
considered
archival and museum quality, however they do fade with time when
exposed
to light. They keep in dark storage without fading.
Dry mounted (on fiber board), matted and framed dye transfers like you
see pictured here are $700 each. Mounted without mat or frame, $475.
Unmounted print, $400.
